Dr Robert Sluka has spent his career following the call of the ocean to some of its most remote and storied waters — the Great Barrier Reef, the coral atolls of the Maldives, the coastlines of India, Kenya, and the Caribbean. Currently the Lead Scientist of A Rocha’s Marine Conservation Programme, he writes at the intersection of natural history, Christian faith, and the urgent work of caring for the ocean world.
His research spans marine biodiversity, plastic pollution and fisheries conservation across four continents, the subject of his first book, Connected by Water, which traces both his travels and his evolving understanding of the ocean’s relationship to God. For the past eight years, that journey has settled closer to home, in the seagrass beds, oyster reefs, and shorelines of Florida’s Indian River Lagoon — one of North America’s most biodiverse and imperilled estuaries, and the subject of his second book.
