The Bible and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals Devotional was officially launched on 27 October 2025 on the opening day of the World Evangelical Alliance General Assembly in Seoul, South Korea, marking the culmination of several years of collaborative work envisioned by Dr Samuel Richmond, Project Support Officer at the WEA Sustainability Center, and Matthias Boehning, Co-Director of the WEA-SC. Distinctive in both vision and depth, the devotional invites believers to explore how the enduring truths of Scripture speak into today’s global pursuit of flourishing for people, communities, and creation, calling readers to love their neighbours, care for God’s world, and participate in God’s renewing work in every sphere of life.
As Dr. Richmond writes in the preface, it encourages believers to engage the world’s challenges as “active agents of hope, healing, and renewal,” a theme echoed by Dr. Chris Elisara, Director of the WEA-SC, who commends the devotional for connecting the world’s great needs with the promises of Scripture and the hope of the Gospel, and prays that readers’ reflections will contribute to the renewal of people, places, and creation until Christ is all in all.
